Handling Tools
Handling tools in the context of the oil and gas industry refer to a wide range of specialized equipment designed to assist in the safe and efficient handling, manipulation, and transportation of drilling tools, wellbore equipment, and other components during drilling operations.
Types of Handling Tools
-
Elevators
Function: Elevators are used to raise and lower tubular items like drill pipe, casing, and other heavy equipment in and out of the well. They grip and suspend the equipment safely while it is being lifted or lowered. -
Pipe Tongs
Function: Pipe tongs are used for gripping, tightening, or loosening pipes (such as drill pipe, casing, or tubing) in a rotating or non-rotating manner. - Casing Slips: Casing slips are used to temporarily hold the casing string in place while it is being run into the hole or pulled out. They are typically used in the casing running process to help support the weight of the casing.
