Workover Rigs
Workover Rigs
Workover Rigs are specialized types of drilling rigs used to perform maintenance or remedial work on existing wells in the oil and gas industry. Unlike exploration or production drilling rigs, which are used to drill new wells, workover rigs are used for well intervention. This can include a variety of tasks such as well repairs, cleanouts, recompletion, and stimulation to improve well performance or extend the life of a well.
Key Functions of Workover Rigs:
- Workover rigs are used for routine maintenance of wells, including replacing damaged or worn-out parts, fixing leaks, and ensuring the well is functioning efficiently. They help in maintaining the integrity of the wellbore and the surrounding production equipment.
- Recompletion refers to modifying an existing well to allow for production from different zones within the same wellbore. Workover rigs can be used to perforate new zones, install packers, or reconfigure the wellbore for optimal production.
